A Christmas tree lights up the town in honor of loved ones and unforgettable memories
STATESBORO, GA— Families and friends gathered Thursday night for the 16th annual Mistletoe & Memories Tree lighting ceremony. Roughly 150 attendees were present at Ogeechee Area Hospice's event this year.
Holidays are often associated with reflection on life--with lots of sadness or mixed feelings.
“It means a lot to us here, the community, and to anyone who has lost somebody in the past...like myself,” Marketing Relations Manager Tinker Lanier said.
The OAH tree lighting was welcomed to all community members. The intention of the event was to bring ease, hope, and interactive activities.
Organizers of the event agreed grieving is normal and will eventually lead to acknowledgment of pain and coping strategies. Donations were available to honor those who've transitioned.
“The bell that’s given to those who purchase a ribbon holds something undeniably heartwarming--it gives closure and respect for families,” Ogeechee Area Hospice Bereavement Planner Tammy Horton said.
According to Horton, It’s a journey of processing a plethora of emotions.
Inside the chapel guests were encouraged to pray, sit and reflect on memories held dearest.
“It’s quite a joy to be a part of this service. I was a case manager for a long time and ensuring others' comfort and quality of life is something I take great pride in," Retired Case Manager Gloria Stubbs said.
